It’s Giving Standing on Confidence!
Are you nervous or comfortable in conversations? Be honest with yourself. Let me break it down even
more. Let’s say a high-powered executive over a brand you want to partner with approaches you. Are
you looking them directly in the eye the entire time? What about this, are you expressing why you’re
passionate about representing their product or are you speaking to executives the same way you speak
to Mama and dem?
Listen, we’re not saying to not be yourself, what we want is for you to expand your natural abilities with
skills that emphasize that you are cool and confident in every room that you walk into. We’re here to
help your light shine even brighter….like brighter than the diamonds (hopefully real ones) you might one
day be rocking.
At this point, we’re sure you’re thinking “Hold up, Lenox, so how can I still be me without being fake?”
Glad you asked. And you know what, let me be transparent. I’m always evolving in this area so you’re
not alone. Here are my three tactics that I use in order to elevate my confidence. Perhaps you can take
this and add your own spin to it.
- Study a few of your favorite celebrities, podcast hosts, athletes etc., and the interviews they
appear in. It’s like watching film in order to study your opponents, but also how you showed up
in the game. How is their posture in interviews, are they stuttering over their words
consistently, does it look like they just rolled out of bed? - Pretend you are the protagonist in a music video/movie? How does your character act in various
scenes? Does everyone want to be around them or are they the lovable villain? - Build a persona. Let’s use Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders as an example. Did you know he’s
actually an introvert in real life? He modeled the Prime Time persona after a few of his favorite
idols (Hank Aaron, Dr. J, Muhammad Ali and the OJ Simpson he knew growing up) and molded
them into one person. Coach Prime created this brand in order to stand out, bring more
attention to cornerbacks and to accumulate more money so he could carry out his overall goal
of retiring his Mama. How does your persona aka alter ego show up in public?
That concludes this edition of The Tunnel. Tell us how you’re building your confidence and maybe we
can add some of those tips and tricks to our own bags. Just because we’re adults doesn’t mean we can’t
learn from you.
